The Local History Committee has been a committee of the Gloucestershire
Rural Community Council for more than 60 years.
The Local History Committee includes representatives from many local history societies in the county,
the county record office and local studies centres, and meets quarterly
to discuss matters relating to local history in Gloucestershire. It encourages
the study of local history in the county by local history societies and
individuals within Gloucestershire, by organisation of meetings and by
publications.
The GRCC announced in November 2011 that it was withdrawing all funding
for the Local History Committee from 31 March 2012.
However, a new organisation is likely to be formed which will carry out the
functions previously carried out by the Local History Committee.
